The terms, in plain language.

What Spotter is

A tool for planning and recording barbell training, for athletes and the coaches they already work with. It is operated by Marcus Leong, an individual in the United States, as a private beta: access is by invitation or by approval from the waitlist, and it is free while the beta runs. You must be at least 18 to use it during the beta.

What you get

• An account that is yours. You keep whatever rights you have in what you put into it. A coach may write programs for you through Spotter; your copy stays in your account, readable and trainable, after the relationship ends. Nothing in these terms decides who owns the intellectual property in a program as between you and your coach — that is between the two of you.
• Your history is yours to keep. A coach can prescribe your future weeks and read what you lifted; nobody edits what you lifted.
• Free training for athletes, for the whole beta and after it. Coaches use Spotter free during the beta; when Spotter charges coaches, beta coaches keep a Founding Coach price for as long as they subscribe.
• A copy of your data on request, and its deletion on request, as the privacy statement describes.

What Spotter asks

• Use your own account, and coach only people who have accepted your invitation. Spotter enforces this; please do not try to route around it.
• Do not use Spotter to harm anyone or to break the law, and do not attack the service or other people's data.
• Tell us what breaks, in the shared chat or by email. Spotter is run by one person: serious problems get attention first, and there is no promised response or fix time.

What Spotter does not promise

Spotter records and organises training. It is not medical advice, it does not diagnose an injury, it does not judge whether a program is right for you, and it does not guarantee any result. Training decisions are yours and your coach's. The service is provided as it is during the beta: it may go down, change, or lose a feature. Every effort is made to keep your data safe — a nightly backup kept for thirty days and a tested point-in-time restore — but the beta carries no warranty and no liability beyond what the law requires.

What is Spotter's own

The software, the design, the name and the brand are the operator's. You get a personal, non-transferable licence to use Spotter under these terms; you do not get the code, the brand, or the right to copy the service. Your training, your programs and your notes are not Spotter's.

Ending things

You can stop using Spotter at any time and ask for your account to be deleted. Spotter may close an account that breaks these terms, with notice unless the account is attacking the service. When an account closes, for either reason: access ends; you can ask for a copy of your data within thirty days; your coaching relationships end on both sides; and your data is then deleted as the privacy statement describes. When the beta ends, these terms are replaced with reviewed ones and you will be told before that happens.
